S1E10: He Lives In You Featuring Gerald Caesar

Welcome back to another episode! This week, Gerald Caesar stops by the stage door to chat with Jimmy!

Gerald’s credits include the national tour of The Lion King as adult Simba in addition to making his Broadway debut in A Bronx Tale, followed by Choir Boy, and now Tina- The Tina Turner Musical.  In addition, Gerald is set to make his big screen debut in the film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen.

This week, Gerald and Jimmy sit down to discuss what it’s like when you disagree with cast mates, or in Jimmy’s case, clients, and how to continue to do the work despite not seeing eye to eye in terms of personality or ethics.

In addition, we talk about Gerald’s time in The Lion King, and how Gerald’s departed father gave specific notes on his favorite parts of the show, in addition to the parts that make him nervous.  Also, Jimmy makes a case for the fact that you can’t hate on Mediums, but also love when Rafiki channels Mufasa’s Spirit (“He Lives in You”) because they’re pretty much doing the same thing.

Gerald also shares what his Dear Evan Hansen Zoom audition was like, as well as Jimmy sharing why staring into the ring light (Don’t worry, not for too long) during a Zoom reading actually helps him focus.

Finally, Gerald and Jimmy talk about diversity on Broadway and why theatre producers need to start honoring performers, stories, and audiences of all races more than ever when Broadway returns.
